This Unit addresses the following topics:
Basic Level Design. It involves designing the environments in which the game takes place: game elements, obstacles, enemies, checkpoints, etc. We’ll review some of the most popular tier editors and understand why they’ve specialized as standalone apps
Modular Design. It is important to consider the creation of components that can be reused within the game system, allowing greater efficiency in development.
Game Flow, Control Points, Event Pacing, Character Guide. These elements are crucial to the player experience. The flow of the game refers to how the action and story unfold. Checkpoints and the pace of events help keep the player engaged and provide suitable challenges. The character guide helps players understand their goals and how to interact with the game.
Sounds. They offer feedback to the player. With sound we can indicate the success or failure of an action, provide clues about what is happening in the game or simply improve the gaming experience.
Map Editors: Game maps are a visual representation of the game world and are an essential addition in some games and help to understand the levels of the game by supporting attractive maps. Some available editors are reviewed.
Modding. This concept refers to the customization and change of a game, often in ways that the original developers did not envision.
