Mapping Your Soft Skills to Video Game Development Roles

This exercise helps to identify and reflect on your personal soft skills and connect them to roles and needs within the video game industry. This will help to understand how interpersonal, intrapersonal, and creative skills contribute to different areas of game development.

1. Create a list of your soft skills and categorise them in the 3 categories identified in this chapter. For each skill, you can identify your confidence level (beginner, intermediate, advanced).
2. Review video game industry roles and choose one you would like to work as.
3. Identify the main soft skills related to the chosen role.
4. Map the common skills between yours and the ones required for this role. You can repeat this exercise with different roles.
5. Create an action plan to enhance your ability to fit the chosen role. Choose at least 2 soft skills you would need to improve and research ways to improve them to meet the roles’ requirements.
